Duplicates can be exchanged via StreetPass or by spending Play Coins. Players can find 256 keychains depicting pixel art versions of Kirby characters from all of Kirby's history. This is a boss-rush mode in which Kirby can face off against all bosses against the clock. His jump height comes into play when trying to collect coins and get the best time while avoiding obstacles. In those Smash Bros.-style mode, up to four players can brawl locally in various arenas and making use of Kirby's abilities in a competitive combat setting against friends. In addition to the main story mode, which is a traditional Kirby platforming adventure, Kirby Triple Deluxe contains a selection of bonus games spanning various genres. Kirby again makes use of his copy ability which allows him to swallow enemies and absorb their unique abilities.
In his first 3DS entry, Kirby swaps between foreground and background frequently while dealing with enemies and obstacles that transition between layers as well.
